"Faith seeking understanding" (St Anslem)
Trinity Methodist seeks to be a safe place in which to explore our faith and develop our spirituality as disciples who follow the Jesus way. At various times during the year we hold different ways in which to explore together:
- Bible Studies
- Studies Series on a key topic (for example, our stewardship of creation)
- 'Trinity at the Movies' where we watch topical movies and discus aspects of the movie afterwards over soup and bread
The 'Trinity at the Movies' 2013 series was at 4pm, in the church lounge, on Saturdays:
June 1st, 9th, 15th, and 29th. (Note: not 22nd).
Movies this season include:"'The Way", "Lourdes", and "Doubt".
In September 2013, we followed the study resources produced by the World Council of Churches "Pilgrimage to Busan" which reflected on the Ecumenical movement. Our Minister is attending the 10th Assembly of WCC in Busan, South Korea, Oct/Nov 2013; as a representative of the New Zealand Methodist Church .
In 2014 we organised a group study using the "An Adult Faith" material by Marcus Borg, in conjunction with our fellow Napier covenant church St Paul's Presbyterian .
Methodism has a tradition of grounding our theology in everyday life, and in the social justice issues of our day:
The church is the community
formed by the Spirit of God manifest in Jesus,
missioned or sent to the world,
to be itself the tangible expression or sacrament
of how God relates to human existence
and of the purposes of God
for personal and collective freedom.
